System Center Operations Manager 2012 R2 - Prerequisites & Installation Process - Part 1

Hello Everyone,

In this blog, I will explain about SCOM 2012 R2 prerequisites & installation process. SCOM is a part of system center suite which helps in monitoring services, devices or any application. This tool is more flexible, cost-effective & easy to use for monitoring infrastructure.

Let's start with it's prerequisites & installation process step by step...

NOTE: I have deployed SCOM & it's Database on single machine just to showcase the process... In production environment, it should be on different machines.


Prerequisites:

  • Hardware Requirement: Download Operation Manager Sizing Helper tool and calculate the hardware requirement based on Your environment requirement. This tool helps You identify the actual requirement based on resources monitoring.
  • Operating System Requirement: For supporting operating system, Click Here!
  • SQL Server Requirement: For database requirement, Click Here!
  • Accounts Requirement:
       

  • Other Requirements:

Prerequisites Installation:

Add Roles & Features:


Add below mentioned roles & features as shown in screenshots:







Once selected all required roles & features, Click next, install & close:




Install SQL Server Native Client & Command Line Utilities:


Note: This should be installed on SCOM Server if You are installing SCOM Database on remote machine. If SQL Server & SCOM are installed on same machine then it is not required to install.

Run the SQL Server 2012 Native Client Setup:



Accept License agreement, Click Next & Install:



Run the SQL Server 2012 Command Line Utilities Setup:


Accept License agreement, Click Next & Install:




Install Report Viewer 2012:

Run the set-up for Report viewer 2012, accept license agreement & install.


SQL Server 2012 SP1 Installation for SCOM Database Instance:

Install the SQL Server with default or named instance for SCOM Database. Run the setup for SQL Server 2012 SP1:





Accept license agreement & select below mentioned features:





Choose either default instance name or give any instance name for SCOM Database:



Provide Service account credentials:



Check the Collation:




Provide the SA account credentials & add other required accounts:


Select Install Only to configure reporting service later (You can also select Install & Configure if You want to configure it now):


Click Next, Next & then Click Install:


Once completed, Click Close:


SQL Server installation with default instance for SCOM is completed successfully.

SCOM 2012 R2 Installation:

Run the SCOM setup:



Select Management Server & Click Next: (You can install all components in one time... but if You do so then all prerequisites including reporting service configurations must be completed):



Provide installation path & Click Next:


Once prerequisites check is completed then Click next:


Provide Group name & Click Next:


Accept license agreement & Click Next:


Provide Operation Database Server Name (Give only Server Name if You have installed default instance else provide server name\instance name):


Provide Data warehouse database server name (Give only Server Name if You have installed default instance else provide server name\instance name):



Provide service credentials & click next:



Click Next, Next & Click install:


Click Close once installation is completed:



Open Reporting Service Configuration Connection:


Click on Change Database:


Click Next:


Click Next:


Click Next:


Provide credentials & Click Next:



Check all configurations & Click Next:


Click Finish:


Go to Web Service URL & Click Apply:


Click on Link:


Web Service URL is configured:


Go to Report Manager URL & Click on Apply:


Click on Link:


Reporting Manager URL is configured:


All prerequisites are ready now for next features installation.

Run the SCOM setup again & Click on Add Features:


Select All features & Click Next:


Click Next:



Click Next:


Click Next:


Provide credentials & click next:


Click Next, Next & Install:


Click close once installation is completed successfully:


SCOM Console:



SCOM 2012 R2 installation is completed.
