EMS - Microsoft Intune : Basic Overview with Prerequisites - Part 1

Hello Everyone,

It's been long time I couldn't write something good for You but now I am back again :)

So, This post is about another component of EMS, known as Microsoft Intune (MDM and MAM solutions).

What is Microsoft Intune?

In very simple term, This is a solution which helps organisation users to be more productive with completely securing organisation data and thereby providing multi-identity (segregating Personal and Official Data like mails, files etc) in all platform devices.

This is the concept of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) where company can secure official data by using Multi-identity functionality of Intune.

Not only Mobile Devices, This can also manage PCs as mobile devices. You can deploy and manage apps thereby protecting data to be shared with any other apps or location with policies like blocking copy/cut/paste or save-as options.

Intune is a part of other components as well like SCCM, Office 365 and EMS itself. You can use it as stand-alone product or with either of subscription accounts.

Let's start with understanding it's requirements, supported platforms and other features in details.

Understanding Pre-requisities:

Starting Process for Intune:

If You are not using Office 365 subscription account or don't have an enterprise agreement then Sign-Up for free trial here! This will be valid for 30 Days.

If You have an enterprise agreement or have an Office 365 subscription account then Sign-in with Your subscription account and Start using Intune!

Platform Supported by Intune:

Below are the list:

On-Boarding Process:

  • Create User accounts for New Users or Sync Your on-premises users to Azure Portal using Azure AD Premium. (For this, You must have Azure Subscription for the same account. If you don't have then You can Subscribe it for Trail or Paid as per Your wish using same account.)
  • Assign Intune Licences to above created accounts.
  • Provide End User Guide and Login credentials to Users for Enrolling their devices to Intune by login to Company Portal using above created accounts.

Enroll Devices (End User Guid to be shared with Users):

Microsoft has shared step by step End User Guid for all platform and below are the same reference Links:
These above reference links will help End Users for enrolling their respective platform devices to Intune.

After device enrolment to Intune, Admin has to configure & manage them using different policies.

In my next post, I will explain about configuring and managing devices using different respective policies for all platforms.
